The University of Birmingham was established by Queen Victoria by Royal Charter in 1900 and was the UK’s first civic or ‘redbrick’ university. The first phase of building work on the campus was completed in 1909 under the auspices of the esteemed architect Sir Aston Webb. Birmingham is constantly developing and evolving in its desire to become a leading global university. This is being achieved through the enhanced research power and reach; the distinctiveness of the exceptional student experience; the breadth and depth of the academic portfolio; the size and the extent of its global networks.

We are pleased to inform you that the Birmingham International Summer School (BISS) 2020 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

BISS provides students a great opportunity to join a three-week program offering a combination of academic learning and an extensive social and cultural experience. UGM students will benefit from joining credit-bearing programs as well as from the discounts available.

The Birmingham International Summer School offers a range of interactive academic programmes that include:

  • British Cultural Heritage
  • Film and Media
  • English Language : Communicating with Confidence
  • Global Environmental Issues
  • Mathematical Finance and Financial Time Series Analysis
  • The Biomedical Science Global Challenge

Birmingham International Summer School also offer social and cultural programme

Eligibility 

  1. Be aged 18 years or over at the start date of the BISS programme
  2. Undergraduate (S1) and Graduate (S2 & S3) Students
  3. Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
  4. Be proficient in English. Non-native English speakers must have a score of at least TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0 or PEARSON 53.

  3. Official Academic Transcript record
  4. Curriculum Vitae 
  5. Certificate of English Proficiency
  6. Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
  7. Letter of Enrollment from Faculty
  8. Letter of Recommendation/Reference
  9. Copy of passport photo identification page
  10. Passport picture
  11. Confirmation Letter of Participation (download)

Application Procedure

  1. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than February 1st, 2021.
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Birmingham International Summer School and you may proceed to the online application
  3. The FINAL decision from Birmingham International Summer School

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • In the meantime, the applicant is required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
  • Application of outgoing mobility for fall/odd semester in AY 2020/2021 will be processed but the implementation/execution will carefully consider the latest development of COVID-19 and government’s regulation.
